Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am has leant his backing to the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) by writing a new song.
Together with African singer Angelique Kidjo, the song was played will live to launch the new GCAP campaign, also called ‘in my name’, outside the UN, where world leaders will be meeting to discuss how to save a world in crisis.
The campaign features celebrities, dignitaries and citizens, all holding their governments accountable for the lack of progress on meeting the Millennium Development Goals and has been launched across MTV and inmyname.com.
The campaign is being organised under the umbrella of GCAP together with Oxfam International, Save the Children and Comic Relief.
Will.i.am said, “We can be the generation that ends poverty,” said “Politicians promised in 2000 to halve poverty in 15 years. They made this pledge in my name, now they must act to achieve it.”

Messages from celebrities and global citizens feature in the ‘in my name’ video and also on a short film called Be the Generatio
I scrapped the idea for the hands holding the earth. Seemed to cliched.
So the new idea is to break up the earth into 11 pieces. 10 for each action and the 11th missing piece will be the 11th action, i.e., "Donating £5 a month".
I had a tough time trying to turn the earth into an exactly 11 piece puzzle. REALLY tough time.
First I thought I could divide it along the latitudes.
But that didn't work out, because I realised I needed 11 pieces. So I looked for puzzle outlines and tried to fit them into the earth.
That didn't work out either. So I gave up and drew the puzzle myself.
I didn't like how the hands-holding-the earth image turned out. It seemed to soft to go with the image of 'Bollocks to Poverty'. So I looked at other images to take inspiration from. The image needed to be a little more crude and in-your-face..
Okay..so screenprinting didn't really go well this time. I screwed up the posters. I printed the same text on all the posters. And I didn't have any more card left. Plus the shop was shut so I couldn't go buy more either. No time left now.. I'll screenprint them for my final hand-in now.
Ok, so I don't think the Mail-out will work. When people see mail from Charities and Non-Profit ogranisations, or any other unaddressed mail for that matter, they just dump it. I do too.
So I'm taking this project in a different direction.
I did a little reasearch. Went down to Tesco/Sainsbury's and my local convenient store etc. and found the following comparisons
I found this randomly. Although I don't believe it, I thought I'd give it a try. I've done some layouts for a mail-out ActionAid could send to its existing members.
The leaflet can be a What-Where-Why-How Guide. And I can use images provided in the Project Pack. It can also have the 10 actions in it.
